This is a cautionary tale: The Jones’ A/C unit was 19 years old, worn out & needed replacement. It’s not efficient like the new units that are available, and they wanted to make their home more comfortable, healthy & energy efficient; plus they wanted to reduce the dust for cleaner air & less allergy suffering. Sooooo...
They bought a bigger unit, 3.5 tons instead of the old the 3 ton that had been there since the house was originally built.
I’m imagining the Jones’ disappointment when they experienced:
What went wrong?
#1 They bought a bigger unit than they
needed, it costs more to purchase & install, plus costs more to run each month; since it’s a bigger unit... it “short cycles”, not allowing the system to get up to full efficiency & to allow the A/C to even out the temperatures and not drawing out the high humidity from our climate. Everybody, with a new system (or old), should Monitor the Humidity. First, go out & get an inexpensive(hygrometer) a ‘Temperature & Humidity’ monitor for about $10-$12.
If you have 60% Relative Humidity (RH) or higher, you need help! High Humidity can lead to mold growth or health/breathing issues. A bigger A/C system will not pull out the humidity from the building like a properly sized one will... You’ll have that cool clammy feeling & not that ‘Crisp Air’ like you want.
#2. They didn’t know to have the contractor look at the duct for proper sizing
for the bigger A/C system, or air balancing problems & duct leakage issues. Not to mention poor insulation levels or other leakage areas, remember most of us have our ducts in the hottest part of the building, “the Attic”! A simple test for ‘Duct Leakage’ would have solved all these problems right up front; without costly mistakes which cause discomfort to you and your wallet If you are thinking about changing you’re A/C system this year and you would like a quote or some guidance or a free report on what to look for and what questions to ask of your contractor, call us today...No Obligation...

Wow, January, Gone! and we’re into February, just like that! It seems as if Winter begins to accelerate in February with Valentine’s (on a Friday this year) and flying thru the shortest month of the year. With Mardi Gras in early March this year and an entire week on hold because of the recent record-breaking snow storm, we have just one more reason to get organized, & refocus on the New Year’s plan, again. Our recent winter snowstorm has given us a distraction for sure; and I reflected on why we left a wintery climate in Colorado with snow and extended cold, 38 years ago; our
area is not set up to deal with snow and, I , for one, am fine without it. It slows your pace of life to a crawl and you need to “spool up” to get back on track after the cold grinds things to a halt. I’m sure it’s just not only me, but I always look at Feb. as a kind of “last chance” for hitting the News Year’s Resolutions again before we get too far into the calendar; when in reality, you can start on a new goal or have a clean slate on any given day, it just takes determination, a little focus and willpower. It does seem to me that “pace” is going to be the new buzzword or at least the way we operate for the foreseeable future; look at the rate of change that things are happening for our government and economy! There’s a rapid pace that
things are moving toward the conditions that most of us voted for in last year’s election. I personally, am looking forward to a better economy that will lead to more prosperity and a better place to live and work for our customers & employees here on the Gulf Coast as well as all throughout the country. And a more peaceful planet will be good for all of us. I will leave you with this question...
